Meet Ronni

Ronni Kime’s struggles began early. By age 13, she was running away from foster placements and falling into addiction. For years, drugs and alcohol shaped her life, and eventually, she found herself sleeping under streetlights and beneath bridges. “I was scared,” she remembers. “My addiction had taken everything, even the thought of wanting a safe bed or soap to wash with.”

This time, Ronni made a vow to herself: things had to change. When she came back to the Topeka Rescue Mission, she chose to put in the work. What once felt like just another placement, similar to foster care or group homes, became something more. “It’s become stability for me… a stepping stone, not a comfort zone,” she said. With caseworkers and staff guiding her, Ronni began to see TRM not as a last resort, but as a launching point.

Through meals, classes, and accountability, Ronni experienced what it meant to have her basic needs met while building a new life. Most importantly, she grew in her faith. “My whole outlook has changed. My relationship with God has changed. I just have a whole new love for Christ,” she shared. With this new foundation, she longs to rebuild her life, regain her family, and pursue health in ways that don’t involve drugs or alcohol.

Today, Ronni is more confident, leaning on God when temptations come and finding humility in the process. She knows her journey isn’t finished, but she’s determined not to repeat the same cycles. “I was grateful the Mission was here for me this time,” she said. “Now I want to move forward, and one day, I hope to give back and volunteer.” Her story shows the power of what happens when people step in to love in the gap, turning fear and instability into faith and hope.

Thank you for Loving in
