Meet Lindsey

A few years ago, Lindsey Adams and her family were evicted. The loss of their car meant no way to get to work, and before long, they had run out of options and money. “We were down to basically our last penny,” she shared. One night, she reached out to the Topeka Rescue Mission, and that very same night she and her children had a safe place to stay.
What she found at TRM was more than shelter. “All of the staff members were extremely kind. They showed a lot of empathy,” Lindsey said. Through trauma classes, career readiness, Bible studies, and case management, she and her family were given tools to start over. Volunteers came alongside to play with her kids, helping restore a sense of normalcy in the middle of crisis.
During their time at TRM, Lindsey paid off debt, secured documentation, and worked with housing advocates to find a place they could call their own. “We’re on our feet now,” she said. “We have our own home, stable for the first time in a very long time. That feels really good.”
Today, Lindsey looks back with gratitude and humility. Once she assumed homelessness was only about addiction or hopelessness, but her own journey changed that perspective. “People are not just a statistic. They are human beings,” she reflected. Her story shows the power of what happens when people step in to love in the gap, turning despair into stability, and giving a family hope again.
Thank you for Loving in the Gap for Lindsay and her Family!
