March 2025

As we reflect on 2024, one thing remains at the heart of everything we do at Topeka Rescue Mission: Standing in the Gap = Loving in the Gap. This past year has been one of transformation, challenge, and unwavering faithfulness. Through it all, we have seen the Lord move in incredible ways. From providing shelter and meals to breaking the cycle of addiction and trauma, we have stood in the gap for those who need it most, loving them right where they are.

In 2024, TRM continued to be a beacon of hope for individuals and families experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, and crisis. Through our shelters and community outreach, we met immediate needs with meals, safe shelter, and essential services. But these numbers aren’t just statistics—they represent lives impacted, dignity restored, and hope renewed. â€‹

At TRM, we don’t just provide services—we love people in the gap between where they are and where they’re meant to be. Whether it’s offering a hot meal, sitting with someone struggling with addiction, or providing a safe space for healing, our conviction in our mission has remained clear: Love first. Serve well. Point to Jesus.

We know that homelessness isn’t just about a lack of housing—it’s a crisis of trauma, broken relationships, addiction, and mental health struggles. That’s why in 2024, we deepened our commitment to holistic care. Our trauma-informed approach in sheltering, mentoring, job training, and educational programs provided real pathways to healing and stability. Many individuals took their first steps toward transformation, breaking free from cycles of pain and stepping into a future filled with hope.

Looking Ahead to 2025

As we step into this new year, we are more committed than ever to standing in the gap for our community. The road ahead won’t be easy. The challenges of homelessness, addiction, and brokenness continue to grow. But so does our faith. So does our determination. So does our love.

To every donor, volunteer, and partner who has stood with us in this mission—thank you. Your prayers, generosity, and willingness to step into the gap alongside us have made all the difference. Together, we are not just changing lives; we are building a legacy of hope that will endure for years to come. May we continue to love in the gap with boldness, compassion, and unwavering faith in the One who never fails, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. †

2024 Financial Break Down

TRM is committed to being transparent with our work, the amount of money TRM receives throughout the year, and how those monies are utilized to help our guests and others in our community who are struggling. Monies used for TRM expenses are divided into three areas:

• Program expenses – These expenses are related to services we provide to those experiencing homelessness and hunger. This includes providing shelter, food, street outreach, guest  education and training programs, volunteer services, case management, repairs/ maintenance of TRM facilities, distribution services, direct services and financial assistance for rent, transportation, medication for guests, etc.

• Administrative – These expenses support and promote the program services and include marketing, public education and relations, administrative services, IT, human resources, and financial services.

• Fundraising – These expenses provide the services focused on donor recruitment, relations and tracking, event planning and organizing, and grant writing.
