NEW YEAR, NEW THOUGHTS
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.” - 2 Corinthians 5:17-18
JANUARY 2023 NEWSLETTER
2022 was a monumental year for TRM! From bringing a new Executive Director on board to bringing help and hope to thousands of people in need in our community, we give glory and thanks to God for allowing us to accomplish so many things and make great changes in the lives of those we serve. What also stands out to us are all the people who helped us this past year, and we want to take a moment to recognize each one of you.
The truth is simple: we could not do this work without the army of supporters that God has organized to join us in His Kingdom’s work on earth. Without each of you, it would be impossible for us to continue serving our community and changing people’s lives for the better. From our employees, to our volunteers, donors, and prayer warriors, to the churches, local governments, agencies and organizations that support us, each one of you is instrumental in bringing hope and healing to individuals experiencing homelessness, hunger and need.
EMPLOYEES:
We cannot say enough about our faithful employees, who choose to spend every day helping people who are often in trauma and pain. No one knows how difficult this work can be better than those who are in the trenches day in and day out, yet somehow our employees always manage to overcome their own obstacles and bring love and healing into the lives of so many others. We recognize each of our employees for the incredible work they have done, and the work they will continue to do going forward into the New Year!
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” - Colossians 3:23-24
VOLUNTEERS:
Where would we be without our dedicated team of volunteers? They stand side by side with our employees, choosing to use their time and energy to help others even when, quite frankly, there are much easier things they could be doing! So much of the work we do is dependent on having our volunteers by our side, and no matter what the need is we can count on our faithful team to rally around us. We thank each one of you for standing and serving by our side on this journey!
“We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers, remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.” - 1 Thessalonians 1:2-4
DONORS:
Without our donors our buildings would shut down, our kitchen would run out of food, and the people who depend on us for shelter, resources and safety would be out on the streets. Whether our donors are contributing their financial resources or their material resources, they are the life force that allows us to continue making a difference in thousands of lives every single year. We thank each of our amazing donors for entrusting us with your resources and enabling us to continue serving those in need!
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” - Matthew 6:19-21
PRAYER WARRIORS:
What is the value of those who work behind the scenes, praying and interceding on our behalf? It’s a value we can’t even calculate, but we can feel the presence of your prayers and see the difference your prayers make every single day. You fill our work with love and infuse it with purpose, helping us as we help others. We thank each one of you for the unseen work you do!
“And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.” - 1 John 5:14-15
CHURCHES:
There may be nothing more beautiful than the united body of Christ, moving, breathing and serving as one entity. The support of our local churches is the backbone of our ability to seek out all those who are struggling and suffering and bring them the hope of Christ. Without each one of you, we would not be able to reach out to so many in need. Thank you for your monumental support and encouragement in our daily work!
“So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord.” - Ephesians 2:19-21
LOCAL GOVERNMENT:
From our city government to our local police and fire departments, we depend on the efforts of our local governing bodies to help us navigate the often difficult and unpredictable work of serving those experiencing homelessness and great need. We know we can depend on each of you to help guide and support us, and we thank you for being a light in our efforts, even when times may be dark!
“Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.” - Romans 13:1-4
AGENCIES AND ORGANIZATIONS:
We recognize that we are not the only organization that strives to make a difference in the lives of those in need, but we are one of many who are working hard to achieve the common goal. We deeply value your support and camaraderie as we work together, united in our desire to help as many people as we can. Thank you for your partnership and encouragement!
“For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them.” - Romans 12:4-6
As we walk forward together into the new year, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for each and every one of you. Each one of you matters, and each one of you makes a difference in the lives of many others. We’re starting this new year well because you helped us finish the past year so well, and we cannot wait to continue this journey with you!
DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that TRM and our community have been nationally recognized for our exemplary networking capabilities to help those in need? Other services around the nation that provide help to individuals experiencing homelessness and hunger have turned to TRM for guidance on how to work together as a community. One example was at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, TRM was contacted by representatives from World Vision, City Gate Network and City Serve, as well as the White House, indicating that they had heard that we have a unique ability to work together as a community. They requested that we would participate in feeding the hungry due to the economic challenges of the pandemic. As a result of this conversation and trust in our community, we were able to provide food for over 110,000 unique individuals in 10 counties in NE Kansas, distributing over 4 million pounds of food with more than 500 volunteers helping us to accomplish this task.
