“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” - Matthew 25:37-40
FEBRUARY 2023 NEWSLETTER
2022 - what a year of transformation at TRM! Few years in TRM history have brought as much change and growth to our ministry. It started a year earlier when Barry Feaker, our faithful Executive Director of 36 years, was sitting in a board meeting and heard from the Lord three times that a young, passionate and dedicated TRM board member named La Manda Broyles was to become the next Executive Director of TRM. When he told this to La Manda, she revealed the Lord had also spoken to her three times - in the same board meeting - telling her that she was to leave her position as a principal in the Topeka Public School Administration and come work at TRM.
As Barry prepared to hand her the reigns and many supporters of TRM watched and waited to see how this transition would play out, La Manda rolled up her sleeves and got to work. Like the leaders of TRM before her she knew God had called her to this position, this mission, and this moment of leading our ministry into the future.
With La Manda at the helm we grew and transitioned our leadership
successfully, constantly learning and seeking the will of God along the way. With God’s guidance and grace we were joined by an outpouring of community support that enabled us to grow not only our leadership, but also several branches of our ministry to bring more services both to our guests and to the unsheltered in our community. From investing in furthertrauma-informed training for our staff to growing our housing, outreach and MAP teams, 2022 was another year that kept us constantly moving, praying and seeking the Lord to learn how we can best serve all those experiencing homelessness, hopelessness and hunger.
Like all growth, we also experienced growing pains as we were hit hard with inflation and the expanding needs in our community. We encountered more people on the streets, more people accessing our distribution days and food bags, and more unsheltered individuals seeking MAP services and shelter at TRM. But even in the midst of the growing and expanding needs around us we became humbled with gratitude as we saw you - our faithful supporters - rise with us to face every challenge, standing and serving with us. You reminded us daily that while those of us on the ground at TRM might become overwhelmed with the needs of those we are called to serve, we are never alone in our mission.
We are so excited to give you this annual report and show you what YOU have been a part of this past year. No matter what part you played in the work we do, whether you were a prayer warrior, a volunteer, a donor, or a dedicated supporter - we want you to know that we did this together, and we could not have reached these goals and changed these lives without you by our side.
We pray you know that YOU are a vital part of the story of every person who found shelter, every family who found support, and every life that was transformed at TRM in 2022, and although we can compile the numbers of the individuals we helped, we can never compile the impact into the lives of those who came to us hopeless, broken, and alone, and found hope, healing, and a family.
As we walk forward into the future of 2023 we know that together we will continue doing this work, not for the sake of the work itself but for the dedication we share to the name of Jesus Christ and the power of doing His Work upon this earth. We thank God for you daily, filled with gratitude and wonder as we continue transforming lives together!
2022 FINANCIAL BREAKDOWN

This includes providing shelter, food, street outreach, guest education and training programs, volunteer services, case management, repairs/ maintenance of TRM facilities, distribution services, direct services and financial assistance for rent, transportation, medication for guests, etc.
Management
These expenses support and promote the program services and include marketing, public education and relations, administrative services, IT, Human Resources and financial services.
Fundraising
These expenses provide the services focused on donor recruitment, event planning and organizing, and grant writing.
DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that 2023 marks the 70th year since the inception of TRM in 1953? Throughout the past 70 years there have been multiple thousands of volunteers, hundreds of staff and seven executive directors, with La Manda Broyles being the 7th executive director. During the past 70 years tens of thousands of people have been sheltered, millions of meals have been distributed, and countless lives have been transformed by the hope of the love of Jesus Christ.
