Mission Statement: Bringing help and hope by sharing the love of Jesus Christ and showing children they are royalty in God’s eyes…. and ours.
Purpose & Vision: Our desire is to provide a safe, fun and educational atmosphere for children to receive care and love while living in or previously experiencing homelessness, chronic stress or other life trauma. We believe that by using a multifaceted approach, which includes a strong emphasis on identity and family-engagement through a Christ-centered trauma lens, we can assist in breaking the generational cycle of homelessness and trauma within families.
Methods: The Children’s Palace provides a safe and nurturing atmosphere in a sensory-rich, faith-based environment where at-risk children aged zero to five can grow spiritually, cognitively and developmentally. Children are reminded daily of their value and worth through a message that conveys their true identity of royalty and greatness. An evidence-based, trauma-informed approach called “Trust Based-Relational Intervention” (TBRI®) is utilized throughout all facets of programming which focuses on empowering, connecting and correcting; proven strategies that bring healing and transformation. Family units are supported through the incentive-based Parenting is a Gift (PiG) Program©, which provides parental education, support and numerous family engagement opportunities. Collaborations also exist with several community providers to maximize effectiveness of care.
Beginning in our Room of Glory for infants, even the youngest of children begin to hear words of affirmation and identity spoken over them throughout the day. Parents begin to learn the importance of nurturing and healthy touch and how simple yet often overlooked elements of caregiving can change the course of a child’s history for the better.
As a child grows within the Palace, so will the intentionality towards kindergarten-readiness. This is important because many of the children living at the Mission are entering into the public school system significantly behind their peers. This could mean that they don’t yet know their alphabet or how to hold a pencil. Or, most frequently, they also haven’t yet learned the behavioral regulation skills needed to function in a group setting. This can prevent them from being able to sit still, appropriately interact with teachers and peers, and control emotions. Through TBRI®, we help children learn the tools they need to regulate behaviors but also utilize methods which assist in the regeneration of brains which have often been negatively impacted by trauma. This makes a difference in their entire education experience and beyond.
Through intentionality in helping children understand their value, identity and worth, developing secure attachment, and giving them the tools they need for whole-brain healing and kindergarten readiness, we have the opportunity to break the cycle of generational hopelessness and homelessness. This in turn will reshape the futures of our children, families and community for generations to come.
